Grants in 2023
2023 – Ronald McDonald House Charities of Dayton This was our 2nd installment of a 2-year commitment. The fund provided a room that houses a family while their child is at Dayton Children’s hospital or Shriner’s in the new building that was completed in 2024.
2023 – Kids In New Directions An after-school program with almost 70 children in attendance, KIND provides these children with the tools, ability, and motivation to break through the generational poverty cycle. With the goal to teach the children that is it possible and achievable to succeed! Transportation is always a concern when it comes to the children in this program. With the help of this grant and other grants, a used passenger van was purchased so that children can arrive from school and return home safely.
2023 – Brigid’s Path Our grant aided in the mission to improve the health of newborn babies and mothers impacted by addiction. At this time, they were unable to bill Medicaid for the health services provided to these vulnerable babies. Our grant helped fill the gap between current operations created by this issue.
2023 – Hannah’s Treasure Chest Their Beds for Babies Program provides infants and toddlers with safe cribs, toddler beds and mattresses and MAK will be providing a grand to support this program.
2023 – Camp Joy Scholarships will be provided for the Fostering Success and Respite Program which provides foster youth with a wide range of engaging activities, such as archery, arts and crafts, sports, games, swimming, canoeing, fishing, challenge rope courses, wilderness survival skills, map reading and more. Despite campers facing sometimes overwhelming trauma and triggers, Camp Joy provides the safe and consistent environment that they greatly need. Foster campers will attend weekend or weeklong camping experiences.
2023 – New Life Furniture Bank The MAK funds grant provided children in the Dayton area who formerly slept on the floor a complete bed set.
2023 – I Am Boundless Children attending Boundless are autistic with varying levels of the spectrum who may be have struggles in the traditional classroom setting, no verbal communication skills, challenges with regulating emotions, self-harming tendencies, a lack of toilet training, and more. The team of educators and therapists use a mix of art, music, games, outdoor adventures, and more to practice emotional management, increase positive behavior, achieve academic gains, enhance communication skills, and improve self-esteem and confidence. We are excited to provide classroom supplies for these children.
2023 – Victory Project The MAK Fund was able to provide funding for the monthly team building activities that are scheduled for these young men at Victory Project. The Victory Project opened a second location in West Dayton in late 2023 and this allowed them to serve twice as many young men as in previous years. Each month the program directors are encouraged to take their team out for a team building activity to encourage comradery and bonding among the students and the staff. Team building outings typically incorporate dinner together, followed by a fun activity.
2023 – Miami Valley Golf Association This grant is to provide partial funding for the GolfNEXT studio indoor education and training facility, located within the Premier Health YMCA. The intent is to remove the economic burden that golf and golf equipment can present. Set to open in late 2024, the facility will create a positive impact in economically disadvantage youth by introducing them to the game of golf. The game of golf may open new opportunities for these youth by learning the game, the job opportunities associated with golf, and it is connected to the YMCA which will provide exercise and safe after school programs.
2023 – Dayton Urban Young Life Mentoring teenagers in a Christian environment, the Young Life provide authentic friendships, the introduction to the Gospel of Christ and help graduating from high school. Tutoring sessions occur after school. At the end of these sessions, transportation and food is provided on the way home. This grant provided these dinners so these teenagers do not go home hungry.
